There are many Towns and Communities in Henderson County.  We refer to these areas
as "Towns" and not "Cities", because the biggest town, Athens, has only 12,405 people.* The four
largest towns are Athens, Gun Barrel City, Malakoff & Chandler.  The entire population of Henderson
County
is only about 68,962 people. Van Zandt County has about 949 Square Miles which gives it a
population density of under 73 people per Square Mile.  The growth rate, according to Census
Statistics is about 15% over  four years** .

Contrast that population density and growth rate with the figures for Collin County,
North of the Dallas area.   Collin County, is slightly smaller, with 851 Square Miles, but had a
population in 1997 of 401,352; population density of 472 per Square Mile,
and a growth rate over 4 years of 52%.**

Which of these two Counties do you feel will provide the
Quality of Life you and your Family will want?

To Learn More About Individual Towns & Communities in Henderson County, their location, and
the School Districts for Each, specific pages have been set up.  Below is a list of Towns which
include an Independent School District.  Some of our smaller towns are included in a
neighboring School District.  When that is the case, the other towns in the

District are included with the town where the School District is located.

One of the benefits of moving to Henderson County is the Quality of the area Schools.  All
the School Districts are Academically Acceptable or Recognized (with some individual
schools rated as Exemplary), and they are working hard to provide excellence
in Education to all the students.    Smaller class sizes &  lower teacher
to student ratios make NorthEast Texas a good place to raise your kids.
